Dr. Vladislav "Uładź" Ivanov

My passion is spiders, and my research largely focuses on various aspects of spider genomics, population genetics, evolution, taxonomy, and systematics. However, since molecular data unites them all, I have had the privilege of applying my bioinformatics skills to butterfly species delimitation and a demographic history project as well.

My scientific career began in Belarus with faunistic research on invertebrates, including spiders and insects, with additional focus on leaf-mining insects. The desire to expand my understanding of biology led me to Oulu, Finland, where I was generously given the opportunity to work on the taxonomy of wolf spiders using reduced genome representation data (ddRAD). The skills I acquired during this project enabled me to secure two postdoctoral positions: one in Finland (species delimitation of butterflies using ddRADseq) and one in Germany (genomics of black widow spiders).

My goal is to expand my genomics research by studying questions such as speciation, the evolution of sex chromosomes, and the genetics of behavior. In addition, I want to continue working on Lycosidae taxonomy and systematics using molecular data.

I would be glad to collaborate, and you are warmly welcome to reach out!
